The underrepresentation of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils in higher education: on the couch with BBC Breakfast

This morning we launched our report on the underrepresentation of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils in higher education, commissioned by King’s College London. Our research demonstrates that ongoing prejudice combines with poor school outcomes to make progression to university a struggle for many pupils.

Lead author Ellie Mulcahy sat on BBC Breakfast’s red couch with Lisa Galloway, a doctorate researcher of Irish Traveller heritage, to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations.

The report was also featured in the Times and, writing in Schools Week, Ellie argued that it is now time for schools to address ‘the last acceptable form of racism.’

Meanwhile, in her follow up piece “The Hidden Schooling Crisis”, Jess Staufenberg explores how key local authorities are supporting Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils.
