Ellie Mulcahy is a Senior Research Associate at LKMco. Ellie brings experience of Psychology research and the Early Years to the LKMco team and believes that an excellent quality of education should be available to all children and young people.
Ellie holds a PGCE with a specialism in the Early Years and previously worked as a reception teacher in a school in Ramsgate, Kent, having joined the founding cohort of the Teach First Early Years programme. She believes that the Foundation Stage plays a crucially important role in education as it shapes children’s attitudes to education and lays the foundation for them to achieve their potential. Ellie has worked alongside Teach First to develop the Early Years Programme and to support participants. As the first teacher with a primary school background to join the LKMco team, Ellie works to promote the importance of early years and primary education as well as expanding the team’s understanding of child development and psychology research.
Ellie has worked in education research as a freelance researcher for Teach First and the Behavioural Insights Team, examining the features of high quality teaching, teacher training and careers provision in schools. During her time as a teacher, Ellie worked with ‘Limited Resource Teacher Training’, to develop teacher training in rural Tanzania, widening her understanding of teaching and learning throughout the world. She is the chair of the Teach First South West action network which runs projects to support teachers and schools address educational disadvantage in the South West.
Since joining LKMco she has carried out research into the national speech, language and communication landscape, inequalities in Higher Education and the impact of literacy interventions in prisons.
