Bart has spent the last 8 years working in education both in the UK and overseas. He combines experience of policy making at the heart of central government with hands-on experience as a teacher and middle leader in school.
Bart joined the Department for Education and Skills as part of the Civil Service Fast Stream in 2006. There he developed, delivered and evaluated national policies including the £13 million subsidy pathfinder which helped disadvantaged students access after-school activities. From 2008 to 2009 he was seconded to the Cabinet Office where he helped draft weekly briefings for the Prime Minister at PMQs.
In 2011 he left the Civil Service to work directly in schools. Since then he has worked as a geography teacher, data analyst and Head of Department at a large mixed comprehensive secondary school in rural Derbyshire. As a result he has a particular understanding of the challenges faced by schools in rural areas.
Bart holds an MA in Governance and Development from the University of Sussex and has been a trustee and advisor for the charity Development Nepal.
