What we do
We are an education and youth 'think-and-action tank'.
That means we carry out policy research and campaigning as well as working directly with schools, teachers, and education and youth organisations.
- We research, write and publish in order to influence policy makers, those working in the sector and the public as a whole.
- We work with education and youth organisations by developing and managing new projects, assessing impact and improving quality.
- We work with teachers and schools by training, mentoring, evaluating and improvement planning.
- We generate our income from the work we do and use it to fund more work on the issues which our experience and research tell us make a difference to young people.
Our social impact report told us we are good at:
- Pinning down the crux of a problem and finding a solution.
- Building strong and fun relationships.
- Working quickly, rigorously and without fuss.
- Relating everything we do back to our experience of working with young people and our understanding of the sector.

- Helped City Gateway achieve 'Outstanding' in every category in their first Ofsted inspection and the first "Hear By Right Gold Award" in the country. 92% of staff surveyed considered LKMco's help a significant factor in achieving these judgements.
- Carried out major mixed qual/quant research projects (on school governance for Teach First and on teaching unions for edapt)
- Provided training and mentoring that led to "measurable improvements in teaching and learning" and helped a teacher secure Advanced Skills Teacher status in just a few months.
- Developed a new approach to training on diversity for Canterbury Christchurch University’s Outstanding Graduate and Registered Teacher Training Programme.
- Published "The 6 Predictable Failures of Free Schools... and how to avoid them" a highly acclaimed short book covered on the front page of the The Times Educational Supplement and the leader column of Guardian Education.
